Directors sometimes get sanctimonious and talk about their creations in the third person, as if society had really created Alex.
All of the film’s provocation and jaded sexual politics are flavoured with histrionic cynicism and disillusion. Other members of society look at Alex’s gang as eccentric and everything they do proves their abnormality. There is a sense of fear around these boys, and because of their different language, outsiders think that they are trying to manipulate them or harm them in some way (Ingersoll 62).
